Ashley Love-Divine Baptist Church is the second stop on our tour. This building has persevered through moves and sales, and is still a beautiful example of a historic church still being used to minister to their community.
The church was originally built as The Pleasant Chapel Church, which was owned jointly by the Church of God and Reformed people, next to Wright Cemetery (also known as Turkey Creek Cemetery) near Hudson. When the town of Helmer was organized more churches were built and this congregation began to disband and the building was only used occasionally for funerals.
In 1941 the Ashley-Hudson Church of the Nazarene was organized and began meeting in a storefront in Ashley. In 1943 they purchased the church building that was destined to become a dance hall, cut it in half, moved it to its present location on hay wagons, and reassembled it.
After this church disbanded in the late 1980’s several other churches owned the building. The Full-Gospel Church on CR 27 sold the building to the current owners in 2004. Ashley Love-Divine Baptist Church has been ministering to the community from this building ever since.
